Reishi is a mushroom of oriental origin. In China it has been used since ancient times as a “food with very healthy characteristics” and “energy of life”. Physically it is a cap-shaped mushroom of reddish-brown colour. Its proven properties are based on five: anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, neuro-muscular, cardiotonic and hepatoprotective action. The anti-allergic action of reishi is due to its content of triterpenes, oleic acid (apparently an inhibitor of histamine) and polypeptides with a structure similar to immunoglobulins. It is anti-inflammatory thanks to beta-glucans, which have an effect similar to steroids, but without the marked secondary consequences. The neuro-muscular action is due to its content of adenosine and uridine, components of nucleic acids that are essential for cell development and functioning; whose deficiencies lead to degenerative diseases such as muscle weakness, atrophy, myocardia and muscular dystrophy, among others. Various studies in China and Japan have shown a beneficial effect, in the medium and long term, in elderly people with these diseases. The cardiotonic action is due to the sterols and triterpenes it contains, which help reduce blood cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Reishi intake helps reduce the accumulation of fatty acids and transaminases in the liver, which helps protect it. Reishi capsules act as hepatoprotectors (for hepatitis, cirrhosis, alcohol, diets rich in saturated fats, among others). They are also indicated to treat allergies, muscle weakness and atrophy, restrictive diets, post-operative, acne problems and oily skin.
